Jodie Dionne, MD, MSPH
Dr. Dionne is an associate professor of medicine (infectious diseases) and obstetrics and gynecology (maternal-fetal medicine) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she directs the Infection in Women and Pregnancy Program. Her global clinical trials research team tests innovative strategies to improve the prevention and treatment of infections. Ongoing studies focus on characterizing the maternal and fetal immune response during syphilis in pregnancy, early treatment to prevent perinatal hepatitis B transmission in Cameroon, and assessing the efficacy of Bexsero vaccination to prevent gonorrhea in adults.
Dr. Dionne also chairs the World Health Organization PAHO Regional Validation Committee for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B (EMTCT+). Jodie is an active ID/HIV clinician and an outstanding mentor to students and trainees in the U.S. and Africa who are interested in clinical infectious diseases research.
