Jodie Dionne, MD, MSPH, named IDCRC Leadership Group (LG) Leadership Operations Center (LOC) Co-Director
The IDCRC Leadership Group (LG) is pleased to announce that Jodie Dionne, MD, MSPH, has accepted the position of Leadership Operations Center (LOC) co-director, replacing Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, MPH, who was recently selected as director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Dionne is an associate professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and Obstetrics and Gynecology (Maternal-Fetal Medicine) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she directs the Infection in Women and Pregnancy Program. Her research focuses on the design and conduct of clinical trials to prevent and treat infections in women, including global studies focused on congenital syphilis, malaria in pregnancy, and perinatal hepatitis B in Cameroon and Zambia. She also leads multicenter clinical trials in the U.S. to test new tools and new regimens to treat and prevent syphilis and gonorrhea. She is co-chair of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Validation Committee for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B (EMTCT+), a member of the CDC/HRSA advisory committee on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STD Prevention and Treatment (CHAC) and the Alabama STD Medical Advisory Council. Jodie also teaches and is an outstanding mentor to students and trainees.
In her role as LOC co-director, Dr. Dionne will work alongside Monica Farley, MD, LOC co-director, to lead the IDCRC LOC, provide administrative leadership for the LG, and oversight and evaluation of all LG activities including refining of the research agenda, prioritizing research concepts, protocol development, timely publication, communication of results, and responding to infectious diseases public health emergencies. As an integral part of the leadership team, she will work closely with the LG PIs, units, VTEUs and DMID to foster collaborative team science and support the planning and execution of the IDCRC clinical research portfolio.
